June 2024 News

Hello, and welcome to the second official newsletter from your new Canary District Neighbourhood Association! We're writing to let you know about some upcoming events, as well as other items of interest to the neighbourhood.

Saturday June 8th 2-5pm —
West Don Lands Committee: A Celebration

Come celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the West Don Lands Committee.

After 25 years of passionate and intelligent advocacy, the West Don Lands Committee has decided to end its work. But oh, what a difference that work has made!

Let's show these patient and generous citizens how much we appreciate their work. Meet on the Corktown Common central lawn between 2-5pm on Saturday June 8 for and afternoon of joy, gratitude, and outdoor fun. Light refreshments will be served.

Volunteers Needed: Fix the Trees!

When the neighbourhood was landscaped for the 2015 Pan Am Games, hundreds of trees were planted. Not all of them are doing well.

We want to advocate for the replacement of the trees that didn't make it, and find out how to ensure all the trees get a better chance of survival. Our first step is to inventory all the trees in the area.

WE NEED 8-10 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US by surveying the trees in a specific area of Canary District, identifying which are dead and which are looking unhealthy.

To put your hand up for this, please reply to this email.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... We Launched!

Nine months after being asked by the West Don Lands Committee to form a neighbourhood association, The Canary District Neighbourhood Association launched! MP Marci Ien, MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam, and Councillor Chris Moise turned out to celebrate with about 150 residents, expertly hosted by the Aviary. Click here to enjoy pictures from the event, and feel free to contribute your own!
