Let’s “Do our Doody”

Pet waste is an issue in every city, including ours! So we have developed a pet waste management strategy that outlines a simple, effective plan to reduce pet waste in public spaces. It includes four pillars:

  • Creating accessible poop disposal infrastructure
  • Guiding pet owners to use public space responsibly
  • Strengthening community education and awareness of the health and environmental impacts of pet waste
  • Encouraging collective action and stewardship to maintain a clean, healthy neighbourhood

Why It’s Important

Pet waste may seem like a small problem, but it leaves a big mark on our streets, parks, and waterways. As our neighborhood grows, so does the need for shared responsibility in keeping our community clean, healthy, and welcoming. It’s more than just cleanliness—it’s about pride, public health, and preparing for a future where everyone does their part.

What You Can Do

There’s lots that you can do as a responsible pet parent:

  • Always poop and scoop, even when it’s cold, wet or dark;
  • Bring an extra poop bag on each walk so you won’t run out;
  • Pay close attention to your pet so you notice every time your pet relieves themselves;
  • Use the light on your phone to find your pet’s poop in the dark;
  • Offer a spare poop bag to other pet owners if you see they need one;
  • When scooping your pet’s poop, why not ‘scoop an extra poop’ to help out another pet owner who overlooked their dog’s waste;
  • And, always dispose of used poop bags in a nearby litter bin (not beside ), or look for the green organic waste bins located in Corktown Common.

Oh Crap! What if you run out of poop bags on a walk?

Since life is hectic, we understand that pet owners sometimes forget or run out of poop bags during a walk. Sh** happens. So, check out our Canary Scooper Heroes campaign for a solution.
