Before we begin the news, we want to do a BIG volunteer shout-out to Annie Yang.

In March 2025 Annie Yang posted a polite, civic-minded request to the dog owner community on our Facebook Group (not hard to imagine the subject). Impressed, we reached out and asked if she'd like to help out in other ways.
Since that time, Annie has served as a Board Member, chaired the Traffic Committee, served on the Streetscape Committee — bringing the same careful, engaged approach to all of it. She was the driving force behind our efforts to revitalize Lawren Harris Square, a long-term project that is actively underway and would not have gained the momentum it has without her. She's also stepped up for a remarkable range of other projects.
Alas, we are losing her! 😭😭😭
Annie is moving away — will no doubt be helping her new neighbourhood with her kindness, energy and intelligence. We are enormously grateful for her time, her enthusiasm, and her steady presence over the years she has been active in the CDNA.
🙏 Thank you, Annie! 🤗

Clean Canary Together — This Saturday!
Saturday, September 19 @ 10 AM
Meet outside Lost Craft
Be the change you want to see 😇
Twice a year, neighbours come out to tidy up the streets, sidewalks, and green spaces we all share — and somehow it’s always fun.
The next Clean Canary Together is coming up this Saturday! Please RSVP here, so we know how many gloves, bags, and trash grabbers we need to have on hand.
We meet outside Lost Craft Brewery at the corner of Tannery and Front, and you’ll be assigned one of our lovely streets. For those who want extra karma, there’s an optional roll of dog waste bags for the special treasures scattered around the neighbourhood.
Bring a friend, bring your dog, bring your kids. It’s about one to two hours, and a great way to be the change you want to see.

Changes & Choices:
Information Session for 55+
Tuesday, September 29 | 5:00 to 6:45 pm
YMCA Community Room, 461 Cherry Street
If you are 55 or older and live in the Canary or Distillery District (south of Eastern, east of Parliament), there is a free program coming up this fall that you need to know about.
Plan to live well and safely in your own neighbourhood for as long as possible
Changes and Choices is a new five-part series on aging and living well in the community. Co-hosted by the two neighbourhood associations (Canary and Distillery) and funded by Woodgreen, the series covers practical, positive topics:
- strategies for maintaining your health and wellbeing,
- making timely and wise housing choices,
- building social connections,
- establishing your caregiving team,
- combining your financial and other resources to support your plan
To learn more, join us for a free introductory information evening — dinner included! — on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:00 to 6:45 pm at the YMCA, 461 Cherry Street, 2nd Floor Community Room. The evening will cover what the series is about, how to register as a participant, and how you might get involved as a peer facilitator.

Yard Sale Volunteers Needed
Canary District Yard Sale
September 26 @ 11-3pm
Front Street Promenade
Got a knack for fixing things? We need you. 🔧🪡
Repair Café is returning to this month’s Yard Sale — and they're looking for handy neighbours to volunteer at the event as fixers. Sewing, small electronics, bikes, wobbly furniture, jewellery, the lamp that's been "almost working" for two years… whatever you're good at, someone here needs it. 🚲
Email [email protected] to sign up. 🛠️
Can you lift a table? Got a couple of hours to help? 💪
We need general volunteers as well. There are two shifts available: 9-11am (for setup) and 2:30-4:30pm (for breakdown). If you can lift a table 6' x 30", and would like to meet some really nice neighbours, please click here to put your hand up! ✋
(Pssst! As of writing there are still a small handful of spots left to rent if you're a vendor...)

Registration is required and closes the day of the event: register here

Ward 13 Candidates Debate: Livestream Link Available
Our local neighbourhood associations — CRBA (Corktown), CDNA (that's us), and GWNA (Distillery) — are co-hosting a candidates debate so that Ward 13 residents can hear directly from the people seeking to represent Downtown East.
The debate takes place at the Cooper Koo Family YMCA, 461 Cherry Street, but all in-person tickets are spoken for. You can, however, watch online via livestream for free.
By registering for the live link you will be able to submit a question for the candidates in advance.
