West Don Lands Committee: A Celebration

This event has already taken place.

Come celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the West Don Lands Committee

After 25 years of passionate and intelligent advocacy, the West Don Lands Committee has decided to end its work. But oh, what a difference that work has made! Let's show these patient and generous citizens how much we appreciate their work. Meet on the Corktown Common central lawn between 2-5pm on Saturday June 8 for and afternoon of joy, gratitude, and outdoor fun. Light refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP by June 1

Twenty-five years ago the land where Canary District now lies, there were no residents and the land was functionally unliveable because of the flood risk of the Don River and the pollution left by a century of industry on the site. The City, Waterfront Toronto, and the Province of Ontario were looking at various plans for developing the site; a group of concerned citizens realized that someone had to stand up and represent the interests of future residents. Thus the West Don Lands Committee was formed to help guide and provide community perspectives to planners trying to decide how to make the area not just liveable, but beautiful and vibrant.

Today, the area is now well on its way to full build-out, and there are now thousands of residents here willing and able to continue to provide community perspectives to planners and developers. And we're doing that... but not without full acknowledgement and gratitude for the work of the WDLC.
