Welcome to the first newsletter of 2025 from Canary District Neighbourhood Association. In this issue, we talk about:

  • Winter Walk in Corktown Common on Jan 11: wrap up and come on out
  • St. Lawrence REmarket, a periodic event taking place just to the west of us that we aspire to imitate here someday

Saturday January 11: Winter Walk in Corktown Common

Wrap Up and Come Outside to Learn About Toronto’s Best Park

Did you know that our Corktown Common is much, much more than "just" a park? It's also flood protection, a haven for native plants and pollinators, and a site with a rich industrial history. It boasts a series of interconnected outdoor environments that humans, animals, birds and insects can enjoy.

It's also an all-season experience, with new things to see and discover at every time of the year. Come see Corktown Common transformed by winter on an informal walking tour of this beautiful park.

  • FREE
  • Approximately 1 hour
  • Mostly paved paths
  • Some slopes

January 29-30:
St. Lawrence REmarket

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) is holding a pop-up community service to collect unwanted goods and prevent them from being sent to landfills

This is definitely something we would like to do here in Canary District, but until we can organize it, we encourage folks to go check out our neighbour's event over on The Esplanade.

What is REmarket?

The Remarket is a community event organized by our almost-next-door neighbourhood association to promote the REmarketing of usable post-consumer goods that can be REused, REpaired, and REcycled and to Rethink our purchasing decisions by taking Responsible actions in our consumption of material goods.
